i think people dismiss the slave transmitters way too easily.

let me remind you: this is a bomb. 

you step out of line, you go up in a plume of sand and guts. these people can be killed with the press of a button, in seconds. the slavemasters hold life and death in a remote. 

there was no escape to freedom, for them. there was no way for slaves to find those bombs, there was no way for them to safely remove them, and rebellion was almost impossible - because, guess what? they could go up in smoke within seconds.

how many times did shmi skywalker have to stifle her son’s cries because of the soul-crushing fear that they’d set off his transmitter? how many times did shmi have to tell anakin you can’t say no because he might get blown up? what did they sacrifice in the name of staying in one piece?

it’s like what happens when children go for electrical sockets and the parent screams, “DANGER! DANGER!” at the top of their lungs, and then the kid grows up with anxiety. but it’s more than that; for anakin, the danger was constant, oppressing, and you couldn’t run away from it. you either shut the fuck up and sat the fuck down or they scraped your smoking entrails off of the walls. your “choice.”

the jedi weren’t obligated to help the slaves, and it certainly would’ve caused issues with the hutts. but these were people who were enslaved so deeply that it was next to impossible for them to rebel on their own, who were living with bombs inside of them. was helping these people not worth it?

#note: i do have issues with other people ‘saving’ the slaves#or at least in the sense that the jedi come down from the sky like these holy warriors of light and fix everything#while the people enslaved just wait to be saved#no - they should get to be proactive in their own liberation#this post is stating that they NEED HELP to get to that liberation however#because they are literally implanted with bombs#and @ everyone who’s like 'ugh the jedi couldn’t have intervened in hutt territory bc it’s not part of the republic!’#a) it’s called the outer rim TERRITORIES - which implies that they’re colonized by the republic#but ruled by the hutts#b) if the hutts had their own governing body they wouldn’t make the shit they pulled illegal#so calling them a 'crime syndicate’ would be fucking stupid#c) IS THE FACT THAT HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN THE OUTER RIM WERE LIVING WITH BOMBS INSIDE OF THEM#NOT A GOOD ENOUGH REASON TO GO TO WAR#BUT PLANETS LEAVING THE REPUBLIC IS?#and some jackass is gonna be like 'sidious arranged that war!’#hi guess what? the republic agreed to it. the jedi agreed to it.#if the senate actually thought for themselves and if the jedi had two collective brain cells they would’ve been WTF#d) there aren’t enough jedi to stop the hutts#you don’t need an army of jedi one million strong to intervene#jedi training is worth that of the top 20 clone troopers in the grand army#or more#you don’t need a million jedi to kick the hutt’s ass - especially since the hutts have no real army#due to being a shady criminal group#the most they could do is hire bounty hunters and that WILL NEVER BE EQUAL to the skills of your average 15 year old jedi padawan#so i mean#there’s literally no real excuse
